"I used the Enhanced Audio M600 extensively during the making of the David Gilmour album 'On An Island'. Apart from the vocal, the other main application I used them on was on some of the drum mics, and on the bass guitar amplifier. The M600 makes the mic more focused and bigger sounding, particularly the bottom end which is tighter and cleaner. It's like switching from 16bit to 24bit."

Engineer (David Gilmour/Pink Floyd)
"Every now and then in pro audio, a bit of percieved wisdom is
completely turned around. One such case is that of microphone mounts.
We don't generally pay much attention to this issue, but the Enhanced
Audio M600 shows that it really does make a tremendous difference to
the sound of the microphone"
Mick Glossop, Producer/Engineer
Sometimes it's the small things that make a big difference in audio recording. The M600 is one of those, I have tried it with my trusty Elux 251 on vocals, percussion and violin and with a Schoeps on acoustic guitar and I hear a definite improvement in the clarity of the sound." Michael Wagener Producer/ Engineer
"I finally got to try out the M600's and we were all very impressed especially using my new Microtech Gefell UM75 mics as a stereo pair. We did a comparison with the shockmounts provided with the UM75's and the M600's provided a more stable and solid image. They enhance the low mid frequencies to the great benefit of the source. By enhance I don't mean make louder, I mean make more present. I believe this is the beauty of the M600's they make my recordings sound more present, more transparent. In short, I am very pleased".

"I have just tracked drums with Vinnie Colaiuta using two Enhanced Audio M600's with AKG C12's on the overheads. I purposely removed the M600's for one of the songs and I can really hear the difference. I have used repeatedly now and they do work".
This is one of the most interesting developments in microphone technology in quite some time... and it is something you may not have considered before. Can how you mount a microphone improve its sound? We think so.
DESCRIPTION: The M600 is the opposite of shock mount, it is a super rigid mic mount. It is not a universal shock mount. It is designed to fit a wide variety of high performance recording microphones used in the studio.
WHAT IT DOES: Testing has shown that most suspension shock mounts have a subharmonic resonant frequency below 10Hz. This resonance is not audible but the effects of it are: when the mic sits in the M600, that subharmonic resonance goes away and the mic sounds different, measures different. The mic sounds audibly better. These tests show that the resonant frequency of a mic in the M600 mount moves up considerably out of the subharmonic region into the mid band, where it has far less energy and cumulative effect on the mic’s response and appears to audibly "clean up" bass and midrange (and some say top end as well). The M600 can be very effective at improving your microphones performance where mechanically induced noise is not a factor.
WHAT IT DOESN’T DO: As a super rigid mic mount, the M600 would be ineffective at eliminating induced mechanical noise, such a thump on the stand or a big bumps on the floor that could be transmitted up the stand. Shock mounts are designed to mechanically isolate a mic from thumps and bumps, the M600 does not do this. The M600 is not a "replacement" for a shock mount, it is an alternative. Do not use the M600 mount where mechanical noise is a large issue!
The M600 can accommodate microphones up to 65mm diameter.
Here is a pdf of a graph of a microphone in a normal suspension mount, compared to an M600:
WHERE CAN I USE IT: Use the M600 where pre-existing mechanical noise problems do not exist. The M600 is designed to be used in environment or situations where mechanical noise or vibration can be well controlled. Isolated or floated studio floors are ideal. Concrete floors are also good if there is no nearby heavy truck or train traffic inducing LF noise through the concrete itself. Highly resonant floors such as conventional wooden truss floors in homes or metal truss portable wooden stages would not be good locations for the M600. If you are unsure if your floor is OK for an M600, stomp on it! If you hear a big resonance, the M600 does not belong there.
If you experience noise transmitted through the M600 to the mic it is not the M600’s fault: it is coming from outside the mic/mic stand and you must mechanically decouple the stand from the floor and/or the mic from the stand (such as a shock mount) to see any improvement.
"The sonic difference is not subtle. The signal when employing the M600 actually is louder as well as having increased depth, a smoother middle and a “sweeter” more open high end. For acoustic recording applications where the dimensional and spectral purity is of paramount importance, these are without any doubt in my mind the absolute best mounts that I have ever used."
Haydn Bendall, Producer/ Engineer
"Having had a chance to spend some time in the studio with the M600 I came
away from the sessions with a new understanding of the true sound of
microphones. The clarity and depth achieved while using the M600 is
unparalled. These mounts will always be included in my studio work from now
on!"
Rob Eaton, Producer/Engineer
"The difference [when using the M600] was simply staggering. I have now changed my opinion about not just choosing the correct microphones but choosing the right microphone mount.
I can certainly recommend the M600 microphone mount and this has now become an essential part of my kit and when this well kept secret is found out I can see the M600 microphone mounts becoming an everyday part of our recording lives. Listening is believing and I challenge you not to be impressed."
