THE BEST IN THE WORLDATC is a British company whose total preoccupation has been with quality.
Since its inception in 1974, ATC has kept steadfastly to its founder’s
(
Billy Woodman) aims of building loudspeakers and audio electronics which
employ the most effective of modern engineering principles. ATC doesn’t
respond to competition, they respond to advances in technology that enable
them to improve their product. The goal is to make loudspeakers as near
perfection in their performance as possible— meaning the lowest possible
distortion. All ATC products are built completely in-house to provide
nothing less than the best sound reproduction money can buy and to meet the
challenge of the latest digital recording technology.
The most important issues that differentiate a professional from a consumer
loudspeaker are 1) Distortion, and 2) Translatability. Low distortion is
important for the professional because loudspeakers with high distortion
mask flaws, making the flaws within mixes almost impossible to fully
identify. Translatability is important because for the professional, the
music is destined to be played on OTHER loudspeakers of varying quality and
type. It is nearly impossible to predict what that might be. So the
professional must use a monitor that translates to the widest possible
variety of playback systems.
ATC has found that the only way to address distortion is to build their own
drivers. Examples of this are ATC’s unique Mid-Dome (the only one in the
industry) and the state of the art Super Linear woofers. The only way to
address translatability is through proper crossovers, driver integration and
support electronics. ATC builds these for themselves as well, making them
one of the most comprehensive in-house manufacturers in the loudspeaker
industry.
The reason you may have not heard of ATC is that the top folks in the
industry don’t want their secret to get out: ATC “gets it done” better,
faster, and more successfully than any other known system! This is why Sony
chose ATC monitors to highlight their SACD demos, why Pink Floyd evaluated
5.1 mixes of the “Dark Side of the Moon” on ATC, why Telarc uses ATC for
their mastering, and why so many insiders rely on ATC for their most
critical work.
"You were right... it's a year and a half later, and i cant imagine living without these speakers. one of the best choices of my career. my work has never been so consistent, my clients never so happy. Thanks,"
Mike Roskelly, The Pod
"The traditional way of doing things was to mix, then take a reference home
or listen in the car. I don't really need to do that anymore, because I find
I'm not second-guessing the process as much, which helps me move faster.”
Kevin McNoldy, Crystalphonic Studios
"I produced Sky Farm, mixed three films and a number of commercials all on the ATCs and everything has translated beautifully. So my confidence level is extremely high! With the 100s I find the imaging is breathtaking. The soundfield is so defined and exactly the way it is on the sound stage. I also find the 'sweet spot' is wide both vertically and horizontally making it great for my clients and artists to also enjoy the sound equally over a fairly wide area. These speakers somehow maintain the same relationship between low, mid and high frequencies at all volumes better than any speaker I've worked on. If I was mixing a record, the vocal sound, characteristic and position in the mix stays exactly the same - dead on from quiet to earthshaking room volumes." Steve Kempster

ATC hand builds the most accurate professional reference loudspeakers in the world.
ATC is committed to the advantages of active loudspeaker technology in which drive units, cabinets, electronic crossovers and power amplifiers are all conceived as a complete solution to the reproduction of source material with a degree of accuracy that a "component" system can never match.
Manufactured in house to exacting tolerances, ATC's drivers are legendary for their many design innovations.
The Soft Dome midrange driver achieves exceptionally broad and even dispersion, so the reverberant sound field matches the on-axis sound.
The result is a flat response, everywhere in the room.
Unusually short voice coils remain immersed in the magnetic flux at all times, dramatically improving heat dispersion and linearity with a corresponding reduction in distortion, even at peak excursions.
Coils are wound edgewise from specially milled copper wire, providing a higher density of conductor.
This, together with new adhesive technology and small coil-gap clearances allows extremely high power handling and excellent reliability.
Massive, high power magnet systems maintain the dynamic range of the source material, while domes and cones are coated with specially formulated viscous dampening substances, efficiently dissipating all but the desired radiation of energy and further contributing to the exceptionally low levels of coloration.
